Bobby Cervantes at Politico reports:
Calling for a “Gun Appreciation Day” two days before President Barack Obama’s Inauguration, gun rights activists are urging gun owners to turn “out en masse at gun stores, ranges and shows from coast to coast” on Jan. 19.
The coalition — including RightMarch.com, the Second Amendment Foundation, Revolution PAC, Citizens and Country, Conservative Action Alerts, Women Warriors PAC, among others — wants supporters to organize against the president’s “post Sandy Hook assault on gun rights.”
“We have never had a president who so callously disregards the Constitution, Congress, the courts and the will of the American people,” Gun Appreciation Day Chairman Larry Ward said.
Obama has appointed Vice President Joe Biden to a task force examining gun control measures in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December.
A review of the Obama administration’s record on guns, in a roundup by the Business Insider, details major pro-gun initiatives the president has enacted in his first term — including allowing loaded firearms in national parks and on Amtrak passengers’ checked baggage. Those positions prompted the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence to give the president a “F” on its scorecard in 2010.
